Acessing Japan's
Agri-food Market
Japan continues to be Alberta's second largest export market behind the USA for agri-food and accounts for one third of Canada’s agriculture exports to Japan. Interestingly value-added exports are now almost 1/2 of Alberta’s total agriculture and food exports to Japan. As Japanese consumers value high-quality products and are generally willing to pay a premium for these products, Alberta has some great advantages in its pursuit of market share. The Alberta Japan Office recently made a presentation to leading agri-food business on how to approach the Japan market. For access to the presentation please click here.

Reduction Compliance
In 2007, Alberta became the first jurisdiction in North America to require large industrial facilities to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions by 12 per cent. For the first six months of the regulation, Alberta companies reduced emissions by 2.6 million tonnes through operational changes and practices - including better use and re-use of energy - and investing in verified offsets created by other Alberta projects. That’s the equivalent of taking 550,000 vehicles off the road in a year. Companies also paid about $40 million into the Climate Change and Emissions Management Fund, which will invest in projects and technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province. Alberta’s regulation and its new climate change strategy put the province in the company of just a few in the world that are moving beyond talk to take action. Click here for more information.
